During these times and in an effort to more or less, “pass the mic” – our shared content has been and will be that of others. We’ve been muted on Instagram too, and not for lack of action or caring, but to prevent clogging your feed. Those whose voices need to be heard over ours will have the opportunity to speak out. It’s time to change the world.
“We understand that we will never understand. But we will stand with you against racism.” We are still listening, still learning, still recognizing our privilege, and still discovering ways that we can help and make up for our former years of privilege and unintentional biases.
Our links today are those of some of our favorite local businesses owned by Black members of our community that deserve support and recognition. We will also share links to worthy online petitions that we have signed. These lists are not even close to comprehensive- there are so many other causes, organizations, and businesses to support.
We urge you to educate yourself. Do your own research. Self reflect. We aren’t going to tell you where to donate or what your call to action should be. Because when we researched and dug deep and reflected we learned so much. And we want that for you too. There is not just one single right way to be supportive, be anti-racist, or pass on love, compassion and kindness. There are many many resources being shared out there too. We do not have all of the answers and we are not perfect. We will never find all of the right words, or write the right things but we can simply speak what is on our hearts. We realize that we have to come together as fellow humans, in solidarity. The real change and reform will come when we can all recognize there is wrongdoing and actively work together to right the future and change for the better.
We encourage you to “put your money where your mouth (and heart) is.” And that doesn’t even have to mean monetary donations. If you’re able, a donation to the cause is a wonderful way to contribute to making a difference. But some of you may also choose to donate your time, peacefully protest, speak out against racism in whatever capacity and platform you so choose and are given. We must stand with the black community and vow to do and be better.
