Battle of the Baby Registries

Good morning and a Happy September Sunday!

I’m hopeful that today’s post serves as a helpful guide in assisting a new mama-to-be choose where to complete a baby registry. My husband and I registered at both Target and Amazon and I am listing out their similarities and differences, as well as pros and cons to both places.

As an early disclaimer/spoiler: both “WIN” in my book- I still love both retailers and I am glad we chose to register from two places rather than just one, simply for making sure our most wanted items were in stock somewhere and to also allow people shopping for us to have online and in-store options for shopping to suit their preferences.

Similar Features of the Two Registries

1. Completion Discounts: both offer completion discounts of 15% off on any items not purchased off the registries around 2 months before baby’s due date. For both places, though, the discount is limited to 2 uses.

2. Helpful checklists to follow: As first time parents it was helpful for us to have a guide as to what needs purchased to prepare for our baby’s arrival. Both retailers offered this feature so we could make sure we included all the essentials.

3. Received Notifications: both apps notified us when a purchase was made off of the registry and also when an item we chose went out or stock later, so we could choose an alternative or find it on the other retailer’s site.

4. Ship to Us Options: Both Amazon and Target had us plug in our address (which they kept private) that allowed anyone gifting to us from out of town send it directly to our house.

Differences

*** The #1 difference between Amazon and Target is that Amazon sent us a free welcome box full of baby goodies like a swaddle blanket, bottles, and samples once $10 of product had been purchased off our registry. I’ve heard that some people have gotten a welcome bag from Target too, but we never did. If anyone knows if I have to do anything to obtain this send me a DM. But when we went into the store to start the registry they didn’t give us anything and they never sent us anything once people started purchasing gifts either.

Target Registry Pro’s

1. Easy to Use App: when we went to our local Target to begin our registry, we were simply told to download the registry app which has a built in scanner. We scanned the items and they saved into our registry. We could go back in to the app once we were home if we wanted

2. Able to See Items In Person: Target’s in-store baby section is beyond helpful. They had really great resources to help us compare and choose products we think will be best for us directly on the displays. It was nice to be able to see things in person too- like the stroller and car seat.

3. Able to Flag Most Wanted Items: I chose our top 10 most wanted items to highlight on the registry that anyone shopping for us could see. 9/10 of our most wanted items were purchased for us which was extremely helpful and wonderful.

Target Registry Con’s

1. Complaints about Shipping: I had numerous people let me know that if they had anything ship from Target.com they ran into a weird issue. One friend’s package was lost and never got to her so she had to call and they resent her the item. Two or three other people told us that when the items they chose arrived the boxes and packaging were so damaged they had to return them or go exchange them in store because they were embarrassed to gift something that beat up.

2. You Have to Use a Separate App: though the app was easy to use, the Target registry app is completely separate from the regular Target app for some reason.

Amazon Registry Pro’s

1. Product Selection: Amazon has a seemingly endless selection of products. Seriously their inventory is enormous. At times it was overwhelming but we were glad to have such a massive selection to choose from.

2. Registry in the App: it was so easy to begin our registry and continue to add things because it is in the already existing Amazon app and linked to our account. On every item searched there is always a little blue link to “add to baby registry”

3. Thank You Card Checklist: Since items were exclusively purchased online the Amazon app kept track of who purchased what and had a section for me to check off when I sent a thank you card to that person for the gifts. They also stored the addresses for me to send the cards to which was so helpful.

Amazon Registry Con’s

1. Only Certain Items are Eligible for Completion Discount: When I went to begin purchasing items myself to redeem my completion discount I was disappointed to find that even if an item had been on my registry for all of these months it may not be eligible for the 15% off.

2. It was Important to Choose Prime Items: I found that more non-Prime items went out of stock or changed prices or shipping times a lot more frequently than Prime items. I wanted to keep things easy for people shopping for us and didn’t want anything to be delayed, so I found myself substituting things a little bit more often.

That’s all I have for today. If you have any follow up questions feel free to reach out! To reiterate, I would recommend to new parents having two registries (but no more) to take advantage of retailer perks, ensure that you get the items you want and need, and to give your gifters shopping options.

Second Star To The Right

Last weekend I was showered with love and joy at Baby E’s socially distanced baby shower. I wish I could’ve hugged each and every one of my guests. It meant the world to me that they could share in my excitement, especially this year. There were also some very special people that were unable to make it, but I truly felt their love from afar. I am thankful, grateful, and blessed. I hope you enjoy today’s quick trip to Neverland- I wanted to share some of my favorite details from the day.

We chose a Peter Pan theme because of this quote that will hang in his nursery.

I am so incredibly fortunate to have such a supportive and generous family. This day would not have been as magical or even possible without the following team of ladies:

My mom, mother-in-law, sister, and sister-in-law planned and successfully executed every last detail. The day was full of faith, trust, and pixie dust!

Patrick and I cannot wait to bring our son into this world, where he will be loved by our family and dear friends.

An Aspiring Gent

Hi everyone- meet Lou! He’s a local, self-proclaimed aspiring gentleman that is already working towards inspiring other men to actually care about fashion. Let’s just say our hometown isn’t the fashion capital of, well, anything! But with Lou’s experience as a tailor along with his active Instagram, YouTube channel and Podcast, we sense there might be a revolution in our midst! If you have a special guy in your life that could use some guidance in the clothing department, share today’s blog post and Lou’s Instagram @aspiring_gent to give them that gentle nudge. His feed is full of classic and easy to attain menswear looks, and everything is very much on trend. Also- he and his wife are just the cutest pair! His videos and topical posts include everything from how to proper mix patterns, tips of how jeans should properly fit and even shirt ironing hacks! We asked him to take over the blog today and do a capsule wardrobe of his favorite pieces to help an everyday guy steadily build interchangeable looks for every day! We hope you enjoy!

What is a truly interchangeable wardrobe? To those I’ve met who have never thought more than if an item was clean before they put it on, believed they have an interchangeable wardrobe already. They wear anything with everything so of course it’s “interchangeable”. They’re wrong! Sorry to be so blunt, but to experience great change you must be willing to embrace it.But what I’m about to share with you could very well be life changing if you’re willing to accept it.

The greatest thing about this idea is that no matter your culture, race, creed or anything in between this message is for you. This “interchangeable” wardrobe is by no means a one-fits-all where I expect everyone to dress in an ivy league sweater vest. But everything in my list can be worked into everyone’s style and looks good on anyone!

T-shirt

Let’s start with the basics. Like any good relationship we want to take things slow. The best part about this is you probably already have a few of these items already, but what’s most important is the fit and condition they are in. Colors and patterns can vary but it’s safe to say that a white or black will look good on anyone. As far as fit, a nice & snug fit in the shoulders and arms is recommended with a loose fit in the body. For the thin guy a slim fit is perfect and a larger man gets a more classic fit for properly hiding any unwanted curves.

Jeans

Again you may already have a pair, but look at them in the mirror. Are they sagging on your hips or in the butt? Are they bunching at the feet? Get that fixed then we can talk colors!

There are many types of jeans. I recommend 3 types- dark blue, medium blue, and black.

Shoes

Comfort is key but, guys, there are plenty of comfortable and stylish options. I advise a pair of sneakers (that aren’t for athletic use) and also dress shoes.

Casual first, find a shoe that you personally like, colors that intrigue you and a style that fits your vibe. I recommend a solid white pair or something with very neutral colors like brown, black, beige. For the dress shoes get brown leather without a square tip front. These can be worn as the base of all the outfits.

Button ups

If jeans are meat and potatoes, button ups are the gravy. Just like shoes we have a formal and casual style. Formal are easy, solid white and light blue are a must and will cover you for any occasion. For fun you can branch out and find what speaks to you. Flannels for winter, floral for summer, stripe, gingham, paisley, dot, anything! Have some fun here and experiment. The reason why these are so important is they tie you to a higher level of dressing than a t-shirt and keeps your outfits interesting. Plus for some reason when things have buttons on them they are more fancy. Don’t ask why it’s just a thing.

The blue/gray suit.

This is the most formal but it is my favorite for many reasons. There’s a time in everyone’s life where you need to be dressed up- for funerals, weddings, and so on. But this suit can be used for so much more than what you may be familiar with. Take off the jacket and wear the pants to a semi casual date. Take the jacket with your dark jeans and have a semi formal look. Even wearing it with your t-shirt and sneakers for a normal everyday look. By this point I hope I’ve helped you get more comfortable with the idea of dressing up because why the flip not!

When I say this just scratches the surface I mean it. Clothing has the power to change your life and it has for me. But this is not the post to talk about that topic in depth. I will leave you with this: Clothing has a direct connection with how we view ourselves. And when we can control that narrative it unlocks a stream of opportunities. If you want to talk about what clothing can do for you I’d love to connect! -Lou

Toile de Jouy

Wishing the sunniest Sunday to you!
Love,
Ange & Bump

A little fashion history lesson coming at ya!

Toile de Jouy, (French for: “fabric of Jouy”), also called Jouy Print, is traditionally cotton or linen printed with designs of landscapes and figures for which the 18th-century factory of Jouy-en-Josas, near Versailles, was famous.

Like all things vintage, this pattern has made its way back into trendy modern fabrics, clothing, linens, home decor, and more! Maybe it’s my old soul, but I personally love it. To me it brings back old charm and a touch of class.

Powder room goals!
Such a lovely tablescape.
These charming curtains remind me of my dress!
I love this more modern toile pattern mixed with several other subtle prints. So preppy!

I found this red toile print dress online at Macy’s on sale. It is not a maternity dress so I did size up to give bump some extra room! It’s so flowy and flattering and perfect in the August heat. No slip is required, this dress is lined and then has the chiffon printed over layer so it’s not sheer or see through.

Bloom, Baby, Bloom

hello third trimester, goodbye feet!

Baby Boy E and I have made it into our third trimester! Every single day I feel his kicks, twists, turns, and rolls grow stronger which is so amazing and reassuring (and also overwhelming!) I sometimes can’t believe I’ve grown another human being for all these months, and then he bounces up and down on my bladder and I’m reminded again of our progress! There’s no stopping this baby from blooming and growing!

baby boy, you are our sunshine 🌻

bUmPDATE: This week I had a routine pre-natal appointment to check my blood pressure, weight, baby’s heartbeat and measurement. Everything is measuring and progressing perfectly and the blessing of that is not lost on me. Sometimes I am amazed at what this body of mine is doing and capable of- so many changes that it is handling so well. One thing that I haven’t been really open about is that it took over a year to feel this joy and accomplish a pregnancy. That journey and time passed was not easy and I’m thankful daily for this miracle, despite some of my complaints of the not-so-beautiful moments of pregnancy.

I also had some bloodwork done at my appointment. I drank the “dreaded” orange Glucola drink and I’m here to tell you that I personally found it to be palatable. It tasted like a melted orange popsicle and did not make me feel ill in the least. So if any other expecting mamas out there are falling victim to the hype- I’m here to tell you that it wasn’t bad at all and it’s totally survivable! All this to say that thankfully my gestational diabetes screening came back normal- although we did discover that I am anemic. I have low blood iron count, so I’ll be supplementing my regimen with some ferrous sulfate tablets and orange juice to help with absorption.

Today’s outfit is simple and all items are linked in the LIKEtoKNOW.it app for you to shop! The white dress I’m wearing is not a maternity dress but it’s definitely flowy and bump friendly. I love the light weight summery fabric and adorable ruffles. I also really like the classic plaid print and canvas material of my bag- making it easy to transition between seasons. I purchased a bag organizer to go inside, because I was fearful the bucket style would make it difficult to find things in the bag. I linked the organizer as well, it comes in a bunch of colors to match any bag interior.

Thanks for continuing to follow along! I hope you all have a sunny ☀️ Sunday! 🌻💛

Dearly Beloved

“It is my honor to introduce to you today for the very first time, Mr and Mrs Jordan Bell” 🔔

A little under FIVE months ago, the world was a dramatically different place, and we were living in a different reality, blissfully oblivious to what was coming our way.

Despite the global pandemic we are witnessing, we should all feel grateful for the little things that matter the most: the love of our family and friends, and an appreciation of how much they mean to us.

At times like this, in the midst of what would have been peak wedding season, I can’t help but think of the many brides who have been deeply disappointed and impacted by the potential postponement of their weddings.

One being a dear friend of mine, Lisa. The uncertainty and unknown would continue to kill her day by day. And I had absolutely no words to comfort her.

Hours, Days, Weeks, Months went by and Covid had no plans to exit anytime soon. So that’s when things needed to change and decisions needed to be made.

I knew Lisa had her heart set on getting married this July, but what 2020 bride wouldn’t? You’ve spent the last x amount of years with your significant other and all the countless hours, preplanning and organizing you put into making the day so special.

So fast forward to May, the day I got a call from sweet Lisa Ann, telling me the wedding WILL GO ON with or without Covid. But big plans were changing. And happening quickly.

My role of Maid of Honor was still in place, but we were shy of two months before the big day. And some added requests were needed from me 😉

The obvious task of doing some of the girls hair, pampering Lisa that morning of, checking in to make sure she was eating and drinking lots of fluids, oh but the most important role like ever…. GETTING HER AND JORDAN MARRIED!!!!

YEP.

NO PRESSURE LISA 🤣

I almost shit my pants that she trusted me enough to not EFF up the most important day of her life. It’s something clearly I had never done, or even remotely ever thought about doing, but there I was getting certified to be her Minister, because how do you say no to someone who you’ve known practically your whole life.

To even put into words the emotions and thoughts that crossed my mind minutes before walking down that isle, wouldn’t even cover it.

Butterflies | Nausea | Excitement | Happiness

But the moment that Jordan stood next to me and we saw Lisa walking down so READY and excited to meet us up there, I knew I was right where I needed to be for her and Jordan.

I’m so privileged to have been able to do this for them. A service under 10 minutes all of which was to celebrate YOU TWO AS ONE. As we continue to walk through unknown territory in the coming weeks, your love will only grow stronger.

Please know that I will never forget this for the rest of my life. I’ve done some pretty cool shit in my life but this was the topping. Thank you Lisa and Jordan for this unforgettable moment.

If there’s one thing I’m certain about, love concours ALL.

I am exiting today’s post with sending so much love to each and every one of the Brides affected this years. Whether you’re like Lisa and do it this year or postpone it to 2021, you WILL figure out what’s best for you and your loved ones. There’s no right or wrong answer. If you’re not there yet, just squeeze your fiance’s hand tighter. Make every kiss count. Lean into him or her. Acknowledge the fact that this card we’ve been dealt isn’t fair, but also acknowledge how freaking lucky you are to have found someone you love enough that you want to spend your entire life with them. We still have so much to be grateful for.

CLAE

Happy Sunday, friends!

We wanted to put the spotlight on a small local business we’ve been loving lately called Clae Handmade Jewelry.

First of all the boss girls are besties! Jaclyn & Jocelyn started making their own jewelry and we are so excited to style their pieces. There is power in matching first initials too 😉 J&J and A&A!

They create the cutest polymer clay earrings and jewelry in all kinds of colors, shapes, and sizes. Everyone can find something that they will love and cherish. Check them out!

Our matching sun visors are linked in the LTKit app! We love the practicality and the cute bow detail in the back.

Life is Better in Loungewear

Sorry if this pic makes you crave Chic-fil-A on a Sunday! 😭 ohhhh pregnancy- I was told there would be glowing but most days lately I just feel round and hungry! 😆

Today’s blog post is about two cute non-maternity yet bump/belly friendly lounge sets. You can shop both in the LIKEtoKNOW.it app or clicking the links below!

Alice and Baby Brother already have one thing in common- they both love nuggies and waffle fries!
To shop this set click here: https://rstyle.me/cz-n/ec9u7pcnxkp

I’m obsessed with this gingham set from GOODNIGHT MACAROON – the cotton knitted sweater and shorts are actually sold as a set for $59 and you can use the code SUMMER2020 to get 30% off making it $41. The shorts are quite short so I probably won’t wear them outside the house but I love how stretchy, comfortable, and preppy this set is. Size up one size if you’ve got a baby bump. Or just want some more room!

Busted! 😳 pickles or ice cream?!

Click here for the SHORTS: https://rstyle.me/cz-n/ec9u4scnxkp

This pink set from Target is also a new fav of mine! The fabric is called beach fleece, so it’s more like a soft terry cloth on the inside. It fits true to size with even enough room for my baby bump! The sweatshirt has a nice relaxed fit and length to it and the shorts are super comfortable and a decent length for at least a quick trip to the store or walking outside. The sweatshirt is $24.99 and the shorts are on clearance for only $12. These pieces also come in a few other colors but since the shorts are on clearance some sizes and colors are quickly becoming unavailable.

💕 MAMA 💕

I found this cute Mama necklace for only $28 from Francesca’s. Click here: https://rstyle.me/cz-n/ednqgzcnxkp

It would make such a cute gift and is an affordable alternative to some other pricey ones I’ve seen online. It is sterling silver coated in 14K gold. It has a 16 inch chain with a 3 inch extender. I like it worn short as almost a choker and could be easily layered with other pieces.

Hope you all have a great Sunday and productive week ahead! So far I’ve made it from my bed to my couch- there’s no stopping me now! 🤣

Second Trimester Essentials

Hi there! Ange here- and coming at ya with the second post in a series of pregnancy related product posts.

If you missed my first trimester list click here: https://inourstyleblog.com/2020/05/24/first-trimester-essentials/

I’ve compiled another bundle of products and items that I found to be essential in getting me and Baby Boy E through our second trimester for today’s blog post. I’m very honest and up-front when it comes to why I recommend these products in hopes of providing helpful opinions and guidance to someone else.

1. MATERNITY SWIMWEAR

The warm weather has hit and we are fortunate enough to have a pool at home so I can cool off! But alas, most of my regular swim suits don’t fit right now so I needed to get some maternity swimwear in a pinch! I turned to Amazon and, per usual, I was not disappointed. The suits I chose are affordable, full coverage, padded, and have extra stretch room in the belly!

2. MATERNITY SHAPEWEAR

At this time in my life, these pieces are less about smoothing and shaping and more about compression and creating a barrier. I wear a lot of stretchy dresses lately and have since experienced some chaffing. These shapewear shorts are light weight and breathable but provide the belly support and leg barrier that I need to keep me comfortable all day long.

3. YOGA SHORTS

I have never been one to wear shorts in the summer a lot, especially tight spandex-like ones, despite their growing popularity. However- growing and carrying another human in my body is a hot and sweaty experience and I’ve turned a new leaf towards comfort. These shorts are made of the softest legging-like fabric and are a flattering length on me. I have the black and navy but this style comes in a bunch of other colors too.

4. PRENATAL YOGA/EXERCISE

On trend with the previous item, what has also helped to make me feel good during the second trimester has been prenatal approved yoga, stretching, and walking. Once my energy levels started to increase and my overall improvement from my first trimester to my second, I’ve tried my best to increase my activity again. My husband and I have the Mirror set up in our basement so I am able to take classes off the app whenever it works for my schedule and in the comfort and privacy of my own home. The nice weather has also made it easy to motivate me to get outside and walk. It’s been proven that moderate exercise during pregnancy helps with stress, blood pressure, and feeling physically better overall. A lot of the prenatal stretches I practice during yoga are also meant to help strengthen certain muscle groups to prepare me for labor and delivery. I have also been focusing and practicing on good breathing techniques for this time as well.

5. MATERNITY UNDERWEAR

As if being honest about my chaffing earlier wasn’t TMI enough… new underwear should also be something on every pregnancy list. This set is made of breathable cotton and has full coverage. The waists sit just under my growing belly and they also don’t create or show any unwanted lines. Just trust me! 😉

6. THERAPEUTIC BATH SALTS

These were gifted to me by my sweet and thoughtful family and they have truly been a God send. I’ve made time to take semi-frequent baths to help me unwind and de-stress. Also, “everything hurts and I’m dying” is usually a quote I use daily at this point. These bath salts in a warm soothing bath help my aching muscles and joints and decrease the swelling I sometimes get in my feet and ankles.

7. LIGHTED MIRROR AND TWEEZERS

So much honesty in one little blog post- the joys and beauty of pregnancy! Lots of hair growth happening, and not just from my scalp. All of a sudden I get these embarrassing and unsightly mustache and chin hairs that sprout out of nowhere and I never want to be without removal tools. I keep a lighted, magnified compact mirror and tweezers in my bag wherever I go… just in case!

8. TUMS

When I say “HEART” you say “BURN”! HEARTBURN! 😭 literally after eating everything or sometimes just because! I need rescue therapy STAT and Tums are recommended safe during pregnancy. Be sure to follow the instructions and recommendations on the label.

I’ve created a shoppable product page of all of these items in the LIKEtoKNOW.it app.

I hope you find this list to be helpful if you’re expecting, or if you’re looking for a thoughtful and useful post to share for a pregnant friend or family member. Check back in the coming weeks for my third trimester must-haves!
